How can you protect yourself this winter season?

By Moshe Dekel, M.D. Holistic Physician

The winter season is upon us, if you have any doubt about this, just notice the frequency of TV ads for the flu shot.

The thought that a flu shot can protect you from the flu, is not only flawed, but also is not without risks.

First, there are dozens of deferent flu viruses, how do the pharmaceutical companies know which strain of virus will be endemic this season?

There is no way to predict this, so at best, this is a crap shoot.

So what can we do to avoid the flu, or in case we get it, what can do to overcome it?

The simple answer it boosting the immune system, so it can fight the invading viruses and destroy them before they can multiply to a level that a clinical disease (the common cold), is in full bloom.

Holistically, there are few natural products that you can take in order to boost your immune system;

Vitamin C at 1,000 mg twice a day, herbs like Echinacea, golden seal, and colostrums (transfer factor).

Taking these products is the easy part, it is important to follow a life style that is conducive to strong immune system. This includes supporting the Adrenal glands (the stress glands) via stress reduction (meditation, Tai chi gong), and having an uninterrupted sleep for at least 7 hours per night.

Seventy percent of our immune system resides in the Gut, so having the right diet and good functioning Gut is an utmost importance to having an effective immune system.

Most of us need to take digestive enzymes, HCL and probiotics in order to maintain a “healthy Gut”.

In case we do get a “cold” this season we can cut it short, or completely abort, if we increase the vitamin C to 1,000 mg every 3 hours, take colloidal silver ½ tea spoon per day, and adding Propolis to the mix.
